Using Chianti to Make Spaghetti Sauce

 

If you a chef who likes making everything from scratch, you may already know that Chianti is the best wine for spaghetti sauce. Alternatively, any wine that is made from Sangiovese grapes can be a good choice. It really is no surprise that Italian wine is a good ingredient in an Italian dish!

Chianti wine gets its name from the region in which it is found. It is the best known of all of the Italian wine districts. In order to be called a Chianti, it must be made from at least 70% Sangiovese grapes, with higher percentages being considered of higher quality.

Other ingredients you might want to include in Chianti sauce are olive oil, summer squash, onion, oregano, pepper, crushed or pureed tomatoes, parsley, mushrooms, garlic, Italian sausage, and/or anything else you can think of that would complement the flavor. The alcohol burns off during cooking, leaving behind amazing taste. Any red wine is going to add robustness as well as richness.
